The swine flu H1N1 in Canada up to now has been some what mild and no one had been hospitalized, that is until a young girl from Edmonton was hospitialized Monday with the swine flu. The young girl was not traveling and health officials are unsure where she caught the swine flu as of yet. Canada expects to see more severe cases as the swine flu continues to spread, however the young girl currently hospitalized in Alberta is doing well.In Alberta they have also found 6 other cases of the swine flu as of Monday. In Canada unlike the United States and Mexico they are not looking to close any schools at this time, however they are still looking to find out how the little girl who is hospitalized got the swine flu. As the swine flu is starting to show up all over Canada they now have 132 confirmed cases of the swine flu, and as we said Alberta had 6 new cases of swine flu as of Monday, and Ontario ahd 17 new cases of the swine flu as of Monday, and Nova Scotia had 5 new cases of the swine flu as of Monday, and PEI had two new cases of the swine flu as of Monday, and New Brunswick had one new swine flu case.
The world health organization says that swine flu seems to have a longer incubation period than most flus, and can cause diarrhea and many who become infected the swine flu turns into severe pnuemonia which can lead to death. Many young and healthy people are infected with the swine flu, and it is unknown as yet how the swine flu leads to severe heatlh conditions like pnuemonia. In the United States the swine flu has infected 286 in 36 states so far accordign to the CDC, and is still speading across the US. The swine flu seems to be spreading across the globe with cases in Asia, Europe, and Latin American, however the largest number of cases are still from Mexico, United States, and Canada so far. The World Health Organization is still on the fence as they have not decided to call the swine flu outbreak a pandemic as of yet though it continues to spread across the globe. Everyone keeps being alarmed about the level 6 pandemic however it only relates to how fast and easy the swine flu spreads. When you see outbreaks across the globe as we are seeing with the swine flu it means the disease will soon spread to most countries in the world. The WHO is still trying to determine how the disease will effect young and old people, pregnant woman, small children and how the swine flu will spread and how often it will turn into a severe case and lead to death. In China 25 Students from Montreal are currently in quarentine for the swine flu for seven days. The Chinese health officials evaluated the Canadian students none of which appeared sick at the time and then put them into quarentine as a safety measure. In other news from Canada 20 countries have banned pork from Canada after a herd of pigs in Alberta Canada was found to be infected with the swine flu H1N1 virus. The World Health Organization states that the swine flu is not believed to be food borne however all meat products are being restricted from countries that have reported swine flu infections in people or animals. A spokesman from the WHO said that if meat products are handled right and cooked right then there should be no danger of swine flu infection from the meat products.
Federal officials state that the pigs infected in Canada with the swine flu H1N1, they believe got infected by a worker who traveled to Mexico and became infected with the swine flu. It is also stated that another worker on the Alberta pig farm also appears to have contracted the swine flu H1N1 and is being tested as well. The workers with swine flu and the 220 infected pigs are all under quarentine in Canada and waiting to see how the flu progresses. The meat restrictions on Canada, the United States and others is going to have a financial impact until the swine flu subsides as the pork meat global trade market alone is $26 billion a year.
The truth is this new flu that we are calling the swine flu and H1N1 is as we all know new, and it is unknown how long it will spread and how bad it will get and how effective we will be in fighting the spread across the globe.
